It may have something to do with the different personality types between the teachers and some students.
My closest girlfriend since grade school became a math teacher. To her, math was great and made sense. Our IQs and basic standardized test results are virtually the same. To me, math was a problem for a long time….
Basically, math-reasoning ability has a huge ability spread among individuals of the same age. Even when kids are ability grouped, there tend to be outliers — people who are truly math geniuses compared to other really bright kids — in the top group. Having an outlier in your class is sometimes a problem for self-esteem and confidence related to math.
